Gayathri (1977) is a Tamil feature film starring Jaishankar, Rajinikanth and Sridevi. Rajnikanth plays the role of the villain. Rajinikanth played a number of roles as a villain during the start of his career. 16 Vayathinile which was also released in 1977 has Rajinikanth as the antagonist.
The film stars Sridevi as Gayathri, a homely girl that gets married to Rajinikanth. She enters into her new house no knowing the dangers she faces there. Rajnikanth's sister, a maid and a cook stay along with the newly wed couple. She find's her new surroundings very different from the one she was used to in her own house. Nothing seems as it is and she is also confined to her house. She gets suspicious and confronts her husband many times only to get a lengthy lecture. She eventually tries to run away from the house after fearing for her life, but she is unsuccessful. She then writes her story in a notebook and send's it along the old papers hoping that someone will find it and save her. Venniradai Murty finds this and takes it to Jai Shankar. After reading her plight the duo set out to help Gayathri. They find out who and where she is from her parents and set out to befriend Rajnikanth. After finding out that Rajinkanth doesn't have a sister, they investigate further, only to find that all the people staying in the house are business partner's who take videos of girls and sell them. Jai Shankar calls the police the next day and the perpetrators are arrested. During this time, another of Rajinikanths men tries to rape Gayathri. Jai Shankar saves her from the person only to find that she has killed herself. Gayathri's dying wish is to take her body to her parents.
